A clearer first step for home food businesses.
Cottage Food Path organizes state rules, product boundaries, labels, and startup steps into one readable path. The goal is to help a first-time producer ask the regulator a better question—not to replace the regulator.
What the first release covers
The public verified release covers Ohio and the Candy and confections category. Only cells that passed the 0.80 evidence-review gate are presented as public conclusions. The broader state and product matrix remains available as a noindex research preview.
What it does not do
- It does not issue permits or licenses.
- It does not inspect kitchens, recipes, or labels.
- It does not provide legal, tax, insurance, or food-safety advice.
- It does not cover meat, seafood, low-acid canning, fermentation, alcohol, refrigeration, or interstate sales.
Editorial stance
When the evidence is thin, the site should say so. A cautious “not verified” result is more useful than an invented green light. The public Ohio guide is pre-screened against official sources; the linked regulator page and your exact recipe, process, label, and sales channel remain controlling.
