Editorial and verification policy

State food rules change, and a wrong answer can cost a producer money or create a safety problem. This policy explains how the site tries to keep its claims traceable and appropriately limited.

Primary sources

State pages rely on regulator pages, statutes or administrative rules, official product lists, and government-published guidance. A third-party blog, forum post, or search snippet is not a sufficient basis for a resolved legal conclusion. Each resolved rule identifies at least one source id in the source library.

Verification record

Every state page and rule records the date it was researched and a next review date. The source library records the access date. A date is a research timestamp, not a promise that the rule is still current.

Unresolved cells

If official material does not explicitly support a combination, the cell is marked “not verified.” The product checker never converts “not verified” into an allowed result. Within the preview matrix, Pennsylvania dry mixes and dried herbs/tea remain unresolved; they are not part of the public verified release.

Human review

The current public release contains only the Ohio candy cell that passed the 0.80 evidence gate. Other Ohio categories and the other state guides remain research previews until a reviewer confirms the claim, source, conditions, label boundary, and sales-channel scope. Development completion is not the same as publication approval.

Corrections

If a source changes or a reader identifies an error, the page should be downgraded to “not verified” first, then corrected and re-dated. Corrections should include the affected state, product, claim, and source.

AI and automation

The site does not use a free-form AI answer to create a legal conclusion. The publication gate uses automated evidence review to route uncertain claims into a human queue; only a claim with both model approvals and a combined confidence of at least 0.80 can be published. The public Ohio page remains general information and links to the underlying official source. This release has no AI chat or server-side generation.
